Think you know a lot about Arizona?

You probably know the basics, like that the state flower is the Saguaro or that the Cactus Wren is the state bird.

And that it’s really, really hot.

Boring.

Unless you’re a fifth grader writing a state report, random, fun facts are way more interesting.

1.It’s illegal for donkeys to sleep in bathtubs.

3. Rattlesnakes bite around 150 people every year.

In other Arizona rattlesnake news, there are 13 different species of rattlesnake in Arizona – more than any other state.

The most common rattlesnake in the Grand Canyon has a pinkish color, just like the rocks.

4. It’s a hot spot for entertainment.

Get it? “Hot” spot. It’s really hot in Arizona.

But, some pretty cool music and movies have come from the A-Z, including:

  • Bands like Jimmy Eat World, the Meat Puppets and the Gin Blossoms. It’s also where Stevie Nicks was born.
  • Movies like “Casablanca,” “Wayne’s World,” “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom,” “Raising Arizona” (duh), “Star Wars: A New Hope” and “Return of the Jedi” were all filmed, at least partially, in the state.

It’s also worth noting that the comic strip “The Family Circus” was created by Arizona native Bil Keane. He even features Scottsdale every once in awhile.

5. The sun shines more in Phoenix and Tucson than in Hawaii and Florida.
